Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes the policies and procedures on the collection, use and disclosure of Your information when You use this computer

What is collected?

When you access this computer via the web, the webserver logs the transaction (IP address, date, what web page/resource is accessed). You might (but probably won't, because it's too much of a pain) need to have an 'account' to access some pages on this computer, in which case the 'username' will be logged.

Cookies

Some of the cgis use cookies, but only provide continuity from one request to the next; cookies are never used for tracking purposes, and are never linked to personal information.

What data is stored?

In the normal course of student labs, you can store data on this computer (in a 'My Documents' subfolder). It is suggested (but not required) that the subfolder is named such that you can keep your data separate from other lab groups, but that naming does NOT require any personally identifiable information such as "Full Names", "email addresses", and never NEVER use anything like a Student ID# or the like. Really, this isn't a social media site, I don't WANT any of that 'personal' crap here.

The files that you store are accessible by the entire web, so don't store anything that you don't want, or shouldn't, make public.

Data Retention

Student files may be deleted at any time without notice for inappropriate content, and will sometimes be deleted a few months after the end of the course. So if you want your files, download them during the term. Which is a good idea anyway, since disks fail.

"Inappropriate content" is defined by IRT for material on University computers, but should be pretty obvious
